Dr. Navi Kaur is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Studies at San Francisco State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of California, Irvine and B.A. in Ethnic Studies and History from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research critically examines municipal dis/investment processes and organized abandonment in spaces located on the fringes of urban areas. Her scholarship reframes individualized notions of criminality and interrogates the structural violence produced by disinvestment, organized abandonment, and organized state violence. Her current project, A Search for Home and Punjab: Sikh Geographies of Dismemberment and Liberation, dissects various Sikh geographies interconnected to Punjab to examine the coercive nature of migration, the loss of land and language, and Sikh notions of being and liberation.
