We are excited to invite you to our "Alternatives to Incarceration Fair" and subsequent Film Screening of the documentary The Strike scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, in Jack Adams Hall, which is located within the Cesar Chavez Center. This event is open to all students and the public. We encourage colleagues to offer extra credit and bring classes to watch this phenomenal, award-winning documentary.

Schedule:

3:30PM-5:00PM Alternatives to Incarceration Fair

5:00PM-6:30PM Film Screening of The Strike

6:30PM-7:30PM Panel with Solitary Survivors: Richard Johnson, Jack Morris, and Dolores Canales

Alternatives to Incarceration

Numerous anti-prison organizations across the Bay Area will be tabling at our Alternatives to Incarceration Fair. This is a great opportunity to get involved locally and take action against the many injustices we witness in the criminal justice system. You will be able to learn about new upcoming campaigns, projects, and/or events from organizations such as FLY, CURYJ, Youth Law Center, Silicon Valley De-Bug, Success Stories, and more!

The Strike

The fair will be followed by a film screening of the documentary The Strike which documents the rise of the 2011-2013 prisoner hunger strikes and the torture endured by those held captive within California’s Security Housing Units (SHU). A panel of former prisoners who spent decades in solitary confinement and prison hunger strike activists will follow the film.
